What is health ?

There is no particular and universally accepted definition to describe this term .

During 1948  , The World Health Organization (WHO) defined health as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”

Oxford dictionary defines it as “The state of being free from physical or psychological disease , illness or malfunction or wellness “

In general , Health is the state in which a person is physically , mentally and socially well being and satisfied .

Health is a major concern for a country and its economy and also an international issue with many institutions like WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION (WHO) formed which focuses on public health .




The factors that affect the health of a person are listed below :

  • Income and social status
  • Social support networks
  • Education and literacy
  • Employment/working conditions
  • Social environments
  • Physical environments
  • Personal health practices and coping skills
  • Healthy child development
  • Biology and genetics
  • Health care services
  • Gender
  • Culture


Much said about the health , so  let’s explore various ways  to remain healthy ?

Let us again categorize it into 2 parts and with tips :

1)  Physical Health :

For humans, physical health means a good body health, which is healthy because of regular physical activity (exercise), goodnutrition, and adequate rest.

As a country’s or region’s people experience improved nutrition, health care, standards of living and quality of life, their height and weight generally increase .

Another term for physical health is physical wellbeing. Physical wellbeing is defined as something a person can achieve by developing all health-related components of his/her lifestyle. Fitness reflects a person’s cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength, flexibility, and body composition. Other contributors to physical wellbeing may include proper nutrition, bodyweight management, abstaining from drug abuse, avoiding alcohol abuse, responsible sexual behavior (sexual health), hygiene, and getting the right amount of sleep. 

Maintain a healthy diet :

imagesA healthy diet is just the intake of controlled nutrition .  To get all the nutrition , you must eat a balanced diet including dairy, grains, protein, fruits and veggies, as well as fat ( this gets often avoided by health-conscious people) . But it’s also important to cut back on bad fats (saturated and trans fats) and choose healthy fats (polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats) more often .  You should focus on fruits, vegetables and whole grains and keep red meat to a minimum.. Taking a multivitamin with folate every day is a great nutrition insurance policy. By doing so, you’ll have a healthy heart, healthy brain, and a fully functional immune system. Eating highly varied foods will also help insure you get all the vitamins, minerals, oils, and enzymes your body craves.


      -> Fruits and green vegetables are the healthiest diet for anyone . Try eating a mixed vegetable salad as snacks .

      -> Avoid red meat , replace with chicken and fish .

-> Use wholegrain cereal , whole wheat bread and brown rice .

-> Cook food with olive and canola oils as they have high healthy fat content .

-> Reduce fast and processed food .


Exrcise Regularly :

Exercise is a physical activity that improves your strength and fitness by increasing your metabolism rate. People doing regular exercise burn more calories and thus remain fit . A person’s  fitness  indirectly improves his/her immune system and thus keeps you more healthier . This also keeps your body weight in check .

So from now plan at least 30 minutes of your day for doing physical exercises. Anything more than this would totally be surely beneficial. And do refer to your doctor before entering into a gym routine .

Avoid drug addiction , smoking and minimize alcohol intake

Quit smoking and tobacco and beat drug addiction that’s the best a person can do to himsstop-smoking_533x255_163729484elf .

Also mini
mize your alcohol drinking habits or better quit this too . Also bring a more of discipline and moral ethics into your life


. Keep trying to quit , take a solemn promise .

. Avoid parties with only alcohol provided .

. don’t smoke in front of any person because if they breath in the smoke , they may suffer from breathing diseases(especially for asthma patience) .

. educate your friends and children  about the ill-effect of smoking and chewing tobacco .


  • Stay Hygienic and protection from STD:

 People who stay hygiene are less prone to communicable download (1)diseases than people who don’t .

Wash your hands thoroughly .

Brush your teeth at least once a day , preferably twice ,  this limits plaque and bacteria .

Take regular showers , at least once a day , this keeps you fresh both physically and mentally .

Protect yourself from sexually transmitted diseases such as human papillomavirus (HPV) .

Always use a condom and other safe sex methods .

Be committed to one person and get them and yourself checked for any transmittable diseases .

A healthy sex life keeps you immune , limits depression and keeps you fit .


2 )Mental Health :

      We are quite familiar with the word Depression , each one of us had suffered it . Ever tried knowing about it ?

Depression is a state of mental weakness where a person stops enjoying hi/her life . Believe me mental weakness is a hazard to your life . So how to overcome or not to become one of its victim . Just read the below ways :

Challenge your brain:

 imagesKeep yourself engaged in mentally challenging activities. This makes you explore new levels of your thinking process and improves your IQ level.

Read newspapers , novels , mysteries  and never stop learning . This has an added advantage that the knowledge that you gained can be communicated or taught to another person ( social life) , and making you a master in another person’s eye( a trivial joke) .

Play game of strategies , solve puzzles and take your brain to its extreme .

  • Make strong Relationships :

 images (1) Being social is the need of the hour . It lets you explore different characters , lifestyles , habits etc .

It’s equally important to form strong & meaningful relationship with people. Decide on people who are  important to you , share common behaviours and are trustworthy.

Select your confidents , disclose something important and your emotions with them .Be open about your feelings , strong on your opinions but don’t force it on others. Also , try understand about others decision and feelings. This forges a strong and emotional relationship among you and them.

Also try to mingle around with your friends instead of being only restricted to social networking site. Hang out with your friends and go for some adventures .


  • Perform your passion :

sports-slideshow-songThere is nothing that keeps you interested than getting indulged in your own passion. So it’s necessary to set aside some time for pursuing your passion.


It’s advisable that instead of resting most your time on weekends , pursue your passion as this provides a lot of enjoyment and freshens your mind better than excess hour of rest .

Try honing your skills in passion by taking some classes for that or watching online videos on them. If  you find hard to identify your passion than do something interesting hobby of yours.

. Do your bit for Society and encourage charity :

Helping others and needful brings the happiest smile on a person’s face. He gets brighten up and blessed for this , which explicitly reliefs a person’s mental state.

Adopt stray animals as your pet , become a member of NGO(s) . As we say charity begins at home , so think about this
