On Day 1 of the Facebook F8 Developer conference, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced several new features that would be coming soon to Instagram. Among those features is a new and improved AR camera effects feature that will soon begin in a closed beta.
The AR camera effects feature set to debut on Instagram is similar to its Facebook counterpart in many ways, and builds on the current AR filters similar to Snapchat’s that are already available on Instagram. The main difference, however, is the fact that third parties will be able to build their own custom AR filters and make them available to users.
According to Zuckerberg, Instagram plans to introduce a system where brands and influencers can create their own custom AR filters that can only be used by users who follow them. Users will also be able to try out any filters that they see on their friends Instagram Stories.
By using custom AR filters to incentivize following brands and influencers, it will provide an avenue for businesses to promote their presence on Instagram. Initially, the new AR camera effects feature will debut with custom filters from partnerships with BuzzFeed, Ariana Grande, the NBA, Kylie Jenner, and several others – to showcase the system and how it works.
The system itself should result in a much larger ecosystem of AR camera effects being made available to users, while simultaneously providing them with a way to choose the filters that they want to use. Additionally, Instagram itself is undoubtedly a much more suitable platform for AR camera effects than Facebook due to the fact that it is structured around sharing visual content such as photos and videos.
The AR camera effects feature is just one of many big improvements expected for Instagram. Other features that are expected to roll out alongside it include video calling, anti-bullying comment filters, app integrations with GoPro and Spotify, and a redesign of the ‘Explore’ tab to provide users with more control.
While Instagram’s app will include AR camera effects and other filters, many professional influencers still rely on third-party editors to produce content. Generally, Instagram itself does not aim to replace the role of editors but instead provides enhancements to make videos in Stories and other areas more appealing.
One way to produce videos easily for Instagram is to use an intuitive editor such as Movavi Video Editor. It is designed to be user-friendly and will require no prior experience. With its features, you will be able to compile a video on Instagram and use special effects, filters, animated transitions, and add background music to it.
On top of these features, Movavi Video Editor is able to enhance the quality of videos, trim out unwanted parts, fix any issues, and process it in other ways. Suffice to say it has everything that is necessary to produce high quality and professional-looking videos for Instagram – or any other social media platform for that matter.
