WhatsApp End to End Encryption: How secure are your messages?

WhatsApp End to End EncryptionRecently, WhatsApp  introduced  End-to-End Encryption (E2Ee)  WhatsApp End to End Encryption , for its user. This move was to secure the privacy of its user a notch further. When end-to-end encrypted , your messages, photos, videos, voice messages, documents, WhatsApp calls are ensured not to be routed to wrong hands or  to a third party. What I mean by third party is either WhatsApp itself or any government surveillance.

What is so much talked about End-to-End Encryption?

End-to-End Encryption (E2EE) is one of the most secure encryption method. It is used  to secure the privacy of messages between two or more real-time  communicating devises . Fundamentally, it prevents potential eavesdroppers that includes telecom providers, Internet providers, government surveillance units and even the provider of the communication service( like WhatsApp) .from being able to access your messages. This is done by not allowing the  access of cryptographic keys needed to decrypt the conversation.  The systems are designed to defeat any attempts at surveillance and/or tampering because no third parties can decipher the data being communicated or stored.

In an E2EE system, encryption keys are only known to the communicating parties. This is achieved by agreeing upon to a key.

Also, For added protection, every message you send has a unique lock and key. This all happens automatically with zero headache for you.

WhatsApp End to End Encryption

If you and your contact are physically next to each other then do the following. One of you can scan the other’s QR code or visually compare the 60-digit number. If there is a green tick after scanning the QR Code then you are assured of having a secured chat with them : WhatsApp End to End Encryption.

If the codes do not match, it’s likely you’re scanning the code of a different contact, or a different phone number. So please make sure that you are on a correct chat.

Note:  If your contact has recently reinstalled WhatsApp, or switched devices. Then we recommend you refresh the code by sending them a new message and then scanning the code.
